Late Night at Lake Perry

News and Information on the Rock Creek Night Runs

May 13, 2009: The distances for the inaugural Rock Creek Night Runs have been slightly modified due to concerns about safety and logistics.  The new distances are 30K, 20K and 10K.  All three events Start at 8:00PM.  The course will be comprised of one 20K loop and one 10K loop.  The 30K'ers get to run both loops.  The 20K loop follows the following trails counter clockwise; Skyline, Logan's Run, Copperhead, Carlisle, Twin Peaks, Blackfoot and Skyline (counter clockwise).  The 30K will start with the 20K loop and then the 10K loop.  For safety we will announce a 20K cutt off time for 30K as the race draws closer.

May 12, 2009: Limited tent camping will be allowed near the start/finish area for those wishing not to drive home.  The cost is $10.  Contact Willie at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to reserve your spot.

F.A.Q

How will I see?

Most 10K runners should finish before it is pitch black.  However, it will be darker in the woods than you would think.  All 20K and 30K runners will need to carry supplemental lighting (for most that means either a small flashlight or a headlamp, I suggest both).  Running in the dark is not something I sould suggest trying for the first time on July 25th.  Please try to get out on trails at night at least once prior to the Rock Creek.  You may encounter a few spider webs when you do this, however the good news i taht for all but a few this will not be an issue come race day.

Will there be aid stations?

Yes! the 20K loop will have aid stations at mile 2.5 (unmanned), mile 4.7 and 6.5 (manned), mile 9.0 (unmanned) and at mile 12.4 (30K only).  THe unmanned stations will have water only and WILL NOT HAVE CUPS.  You must carry your own water bottle to utilize these aid stations.  The 10K course will have on manned aid station around mile 3.75.

How is the course marked?

The course will be marked with pink marking tape and glow sticks.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
